STR 2007 FAQs
Q I hear the Rally is full, is that true?
A The host hotel is full
due to an unforeseen lack of additional rooms, but the Rally
itself is not full.
Q If the host hotel is full, where
can I stay and how much will the Rally cost?
A The NEW Rally-Only
registration package is being offered for $230. The price includes
parking at The Chattanoogan, breakfast on Saturday and Sunday
at The Chattanoogan, lunch at the River Front, the banquet dinner
at The Chattanooganon Saturday, and all the other Rally amenities,
excluding your lodging.
Q Are there rooms available at any hotels
near the host hotel?
A Yes. There are several
hotels located near The Chattanoogan and you are welcome to make
your own reservations to suit your needs, preferences, and budget.
Additionally, we have secured a block of rooms at the downtown
Staybridge Suites, which is located just across the street from
The Chattanoogan, as well as at the Hampton Inn, only 1 mile
from The Chattanoogan.
If you would like to stay at
the Staybridge Suites please call 423-267-0900 and ask for the
Southern Tandem Rally rate of $119/night for 1 BR, 2 bedroom.
You should make your reservations before the Rally registration
deadline of August 23. Staybridge offers free, secure outside
parking.
If you want to stay at the
Hampton Inn, call 423-265-0077 and ask for the STR 2007 rate
of $79/night (specify 2 DBL or 1K Smoking or Non Smoking).
This rate is available Sept. 19 24 (the actual Rally is
Sept. 21 23) but must be reserved before the Rally registration
deadline of August 23.
Q Can I try to get a room at The Chattanoogan
on my own for STR 2007?
A Absolutely. We believe
The Chattanoogan may have some rooms available, but they are
unable to give us additional rooms at a rate even close to the
original rate we negotiated to make the package price of STR
2007 work. The rate on hotels.com on July 2 was $249/night +
tax ($199 for Fri. night. and $299 for Sat.). We also called
The Chattanoogan and they can only offer a suite at $350/night
+ tax for that weekend.
Q What if I already paid for the all-inclusive
package but now want the Rally Only package?
A If you want to change,
email us at str2007@bicycletech.com
and we will put you on the Rally Only wait list, and if someone
else wants your room, we try to will facilitate swaps and refund
the difference in cost accordingly.
Q If I register for the Rally Only package
since the host hotel is full, can I be placed on a wait list
for The Chatanoogan?
A Yes. Please indicate
your preference to be placed on the Host Hotel Wait List on your
registration form. If we can fit you in, you will be contacted
via e-mail to send in the additional payment.

Q Will my large vehicle fit in the garage
at the host hotel?
A Minivans and some SUVs fit in the garage and there is
plenty of outdoor parking on the hotel property for larger vehicles
and/or trailers.
Q Do I have to pay every time I leave the garage?
A TR 2007 registration will include parking for the entire
weekend. For those staying at the host hotel (The Chattanoogan)
you will be able to come and go as you wish via your room key
and a dashboard permit that you will get when you pick up
your rally package. The "rally only" option also
include s parking for the entire weekend. You
will receive parking passes in your STR registration packet to
use in the garage .
Q What about parking for extra days before or
after the rally?
A Parking expenses for any days before or after the rally
are not included in your room cost, nor are they covered by STR.

Q A lot of the southern rallies have filled
up quickly this year. Does STR 2007 have a maximum number of
teams?
A We do not have any Rally participants limits, but we
no longer have rooms at the host hotel (due to an unforeseen
room shortage - a Harley rally is in the hotel the same weekend
as us - it's lycra vs. leather).
We are now offering a Rally
Only registration package for $230 that includes all the
meals and stuff, but you have to find your own hotel accommodations.
We have secured a block of rooms at the downtown Hampton Inn,
only 1 mile from The Chattanoogan: more information is available

Q I've heard there may be additional riding
options offered on Thursday?
A Yes.
One group plans to ride the
metric century option of the 3 State/3 Mtn road ride, which includes
two very tough mountain climbs and no options that do not include
those climbs. We will not paint this route but will provide a
map and queue sheet (from the 3 State/3 Mtn ride).
Another group is also planning
to bring along their off-road tandems and do a mountain bike
ride option on Thursday.

day early, you can extend your stay at the host hotel or Hampton
Inn negotiated rates but you'll need to make those arrangements

Q This rally seems expensive compared
to other rallies I've attended - why is it so much?
A By including the hotel in the registration, we were able
to negotiate an excellent rate with the hotel -- The Chattanoogan
Hotel. Located in downtown Chattanooga, it offers us a great
spot for the rally, including covered parking, a deluxe HOT breakfast
buffet on Saturday and Sunday, private hospitality room, as well
as a great place for the Saturday Night banquet. The hotel is
also close to lots of restaurants, shopping, and attractions,
including the Tennessee Aquarium.

Q I've heard Chattanooga is hilly. Will
there be some flatter options for teams with kids, or for those
who do not want a hilly route?
A Yes. There are both flat valley riding and climbing routes
in Chattanooga, and we will offer routes that are relatively
flat, downright hilly, and both. You can pick the distance and
terrain that best suits your team's ability.

Q Do we get a discount at the Tennessee
Aquarium?
A Yes. We've arranged for a 10% discount on tickets to
the Tennessee Aquarium. Go to http://www.tnaqua.org for more
about the Aquarium and the 3D IMAX Theater. Discount coupons
will be available from the hotel.

Q If we want to arrive early or leave
later, can we get a STR 2007 discount on our room at The Chattanoogan?
A Yes. We've arranged for the $109/night rate (rate does
not include taxes, parking, or breakfast) to be extended to Rally
participants for three days before and after the Rally. You can
stay and see as much of Chattanooga and the surrounding areas
as you'd like or join us for the Thur. metric century option
of the 3 State/3 Mtn road ride (climbing option only no
flat/valley options for Thurs.) or mountain bike option.. You
will receive a confirmation email from The Chattanoogan once
we've sent them your reservation. After you receive that email
from The Chattanoogan, you can contact The Chattanoogan directly
to make reservations for the additional nights. Call 1-800-619-0018
and mention STR 2007, the Reservation ID: #201898, and your confirmation
number (from the email you receive from The Chattanoogan).

Q Will there be vegetarian options at
the meals?
A Yes. All the meals will include vegetarian options, but
you do not need to let us know in advance.

Q Are there jerseys or T-Shirts available?
A We decided to give your wardrobe a break this year and
instead of T-shirts that don't fit, or jerseys that can get expensive,
we are going to provide you with a unique commemorative item
from STR 2007 - come join us to find out what it is.

Q Where do I park my bike?
A Please note that The Chattanoogan is a bicycle friendly
hotel and has been host to several regional cycling events. You
are welcome to take your bike to your room and an unsupervised
bike storage room will be open before and after rides: a detailed
schedule will be posted during the rally.

Chattanooga?

Q If I need to cancel
my reservation, what are my options?
A Send your request to str2007@bicycletech.com.
Refunds will be available through August 23rd minus a $20 fee
and any non-refundable expenses already incurred on your behalf
by the Rally organizers. No refunds will be available after August
23, 2007.

Q Will there be an
opportunity for tandem mountain biking at STR 2007?
A We'll have maps available for local mountain biking.
If there is interest, we may add an organized tandem mountain

Q So, during the scouting
trips did you happen to notice if there were any unleashed dogs
running around that we need to be attentive to?
A A tandem rally wouldn't be a tandem rally without a couple
dog stories, now would it? Yes, there are dogs and, yes, they
do seem to have an affinity for cyclists. Please be mindful relative
to dogs as you ride just as you are on your local rides at home.
