Your
hosts Tim & Sharon Patterson welcome your team to join nearly
100 other tandem enthusiasts at the Tennessee Tandem Rally for
three fantastic days of riding in the beautiful foothills surrounding
the Great Smokey Mountains on June 6 - 8. For those who have
not yet experienced it, the Tennessee Tandem Rally's reputation
for outstanding rides, food, and camaraderie has made it a perennial
rally favorite. Many of the teams who will attend will be returning
to Alcoa for their sixth consecutive Tennessee Tandem Rally.
If you've been thinking about attending your first tandem rally,
or your first Tennessee Tandem Rally stop putting it off an making
excuses: come on and join us for a great tandeming experience.
For those who have attended
previous TTRs, new for 2008 will be:
- Our new host hotel, The Airport
Hilton
- Combined lodging, breakfast,
and rally registration fee structure
- A few 'tweaks' to the Saturday
& Sunday ride routes

SCHEDULE: The
official rally begins on Friday with two ride times -- one early
for those who arrived on Thursday evening and another shortly
after noon for those who arrive on Friday. Friday evening is
dinner on your own with a dessert social in the evening where
rally goers can meet old friends and make new ones. Saturday
begins with the rally's longer ride options and a catered lunch
with live music just off the Greenway trail in Maryville and
a short 4 miles from the host hotel. Our signature banquet will
once again be held at Sullivan's in Maryville Saturday evening.
Sunday will afford you one more chance to enjoy the fantastic
foothill riding that exists around Alcoa, TN.
RIDE
INFO: For the benefit of those who haven't ridden in this
part of the country, East Tennessee features many mountainous
roads; however, don't be alarmed. Tim & Sharon have been
riding around Alcoa for many years and been able to craft routes
for the tandem rally that avoid the really steep stuff: that
is, unless your team opts to join the now infamous "Thursday
Team Challenge - more info below.
That said, Tim & Sharon
will ensure riders of all abilities will be able to find suitable
ride options that will allow them to enjoy the beautiful scenery
in and around the Great Smokey Mountain National Park. In addition
to organized rides on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday that offer
a variety of route options, we once again are offering a special
Thursday
Team Challenge before the official start of the rally.
Please Note: For anyone
who hasn't ridden in the foothills around the Great Smokey Mountains,
even though we have lots of mountainous roads we are able to
route riders around the really steep climbs. However, it's impossible
to ride over 10 miles in the area around Alcoa, TN, without climbing
something and what goes up must go down. Therefore, please use
extreme caution on the descents as tandems left to descend without
judicious braking can easily hit speeds of fifty miles per hour
on some of the hills... far too too fast for many of the corners
that you'll encounter.
ACCOMMODATIONS:
For 2008, the Tenneesse Tandem Rally has partnered with the Airport Hilton
and your lodging for Friday and Saturday evenings are included
in the rally registration. Accommodations provided as part of
our package include a non-smoking double room and a breakfast
buffet on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Your room reservations
will be made by the rally and you will receive confirmation of
your room reservations in the same Email that confirms the receipt
of your rally registration.
